May at Talking Animals
"I know it's heavy, I know it ain't light, but how you gonna lift it with your arms folded tight?" Arcade Fire, "Month of May"
We did it, y’all. We smashed our sales records for Indie Bookstore Day last Saturday, THANKS TO YOU!! Thank you for intentionally shopping with indie bookstores instead of Am*zon. When people ask us how we can possibly compete with “THEM” I will now tell them: if we can’t even compete, why are they having a book sale on INDIE BOOKSTORE DAY????
Thank you for all that you do to make our store special. We had fun meeting new bookstore friends at the Capitol in April as we joined forces to testify against House Bill 1375, which would hold booksellers liable for “harmful content” sold to minors. I think you all know we do not sell anything harmful to anyone! That goes against the mission of any bookstore. We are a place for ideas, sharing, and inclusion, not criminal activity. We had lots of fun at the Emily Henry Midnight Release party! And we attended the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Assoc. conference in San Antonio! We hope you are having a great May Day and can’t wait to see you in the store soon for more fun events.
xoxo,
Katy and Val
