September at Talking Animals
"May I, composed like them of Eros and of dust, beleaguered by the same negation and despair, show an affirming flame." W.H. Auden, "September 1, 1939"
IS IT FALL YET??? Oh my gosh, y’all, this weather is enough! While Texas continues to slow-cook us all, we keep it cozy in the bookstore! Everyone is returning to the rhythms of the slow seasons. Soon, it will be time for firewood, sweaters, and snuggling. Until then, we have the books to distract us from the boiling hellscape we call home here in Texas.
Here’s what our staff is reading!
Aarushi: Cleopatra and Frankenstein, The Cat Who Saved Books
Emmalie: Such Sharp Teeth, Ninth House
Katy: Men Have Called Her Crazy, Banal Nightmare
Caroline: Shatter Me
Parker: If He Had Been With Me, Daisy Jones and the Six, Yours Truly
As we wrap up the summer, we are full steam into fall with some fantastic events, including a HUGE AUTHOR EVENT: Raina Telgemeier! The Coppell Cozby Library has asked us to partner with them at their event, hosting one of the BEST authors! This event is F R E E, so don’t miss a chance to hear a talented artist speak about her work and get a book signed! Books will be available for purchase on-site or pre-order at talkinganimalsbooks.com
We also have a few new book clubs, including the revamped Parker’s High School/YA, Emmalie Literary Lounge (with our fabulous new bookseller Emmalie!), and Irish Book Club, hosted by Katy.
Grapefest will be here in just two weeks. If you don’t know, that’s the 4-day street fair that takes over Grapevine Main St every fall. It’s a wine celebration with various vendors, rides, and cool stuff. We will have AIR CONDITIONING and some tents with crafts outside in our neck of the woods!
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1: YOGA BOOK FAIR, Inspire Yoga is throwing an anniversary party and treating teachers to books THEY want to read (not for the classroom!). Join us for shopping and snacks, fulfill a teacher wishlist, and find your next read!
